This month’s Boss in the ’Burbs spotlight shines on a mom, fitness expert, and entrepreneur who is transforming the way women approach strength, recovery, and wellness.
Danielle Donovan, inspired by her own postpartum experience, founded Maia Well and created The Maia Method, a first-of-its-kind pelvic floor and deep core fitness program that helps women feel stronger, more confident, and more connected to their bodies through every stage of life. From pregnancy and postpartum to menopause and beyond, she is building more than a workout—she’s creating a community where women feel supported, empowered, and seen.
Can you share a little about your background?
I’m a New Jersey mama of two, certified pelvic floor fitness specialist, and founder of Maia Well, home of The Maia Method a first-of-its-kind, in-person pelvic floor and deep core workout designed to help women build strength, improve stability, and reconnect with their bodies. Inspired by my own postpartum journey, I created The Maia Method to bridge the gap between pelvic floor rehabilitation and traditional fitness. Backed by a Medical Advisory Board, Maia’s breath-led strength classes help women feel stronger, more confident, and supported through every stage of life, from pregnancy and postpartum to perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.
Can you share what inspired you to create Maia Method?
What started as a Google search for “pelvic floor workout classes” after having my second baby turned into something so much bigger. As someone who had spent over 15 years in the fitness industry, I was surprised that I couldn’t find an in-person workout that focused on pelvic floor and deep core connection.
I wanted more than rehab and more than an online program – I wanted a place where women could rebuild their foundation, get in a great workout, feel strong, and connect with others. So I became certified in Pelvic Floor Fitness and Core Confidence, built out a Medical Advisory Board of women’s health experts, and created The Maia Method: 55 minutes of full-body strength rooted in pelvic floor and deep core connection, alignment, and 360-degree breathing.
But Maia Method was never just about the workout – it has become a place for community, connection, support, and women showing up for themselves and each other, because you shouldn’t have to choose between feeling supported and getting a really good workout.
What products and/or services do you offer?
At Maia Well, we offer breath-led strength and mobility workout classes designed to help women build strength from the inside out.
Our signature Maia Method classes combine 360-degree breathing, pelvic floor and deep core connection, functional strength training, mobility, and low-impact movements. Every workout follows a structured sequence that helps women improve core strength, stability, posture, and body awareness while still feeling like a great workout.
Our offerings currently include:
- Signature Maia Method Strength & Sculpt Classes – our flagship breath-led strength workout focused on pelvic floor and deep core connection.
- BYO Baby Classes – postpartum fitness classes where moms can bring their babies while reconnecting with their bodies and building strength in a supportive environment.
- Prenatal Strength & Mobility Series – a small-group program designed specifically for expecting moms, combining prenatal-safe strength training, mobility, breathwork, and pelvic floor preparation.
- Personal Training – individualized prenatal and postpartum coaching tailored to each woman’s goals, recovery, and stage of life.
- Community Events & Workshops – including Pelvic Floor Workouts, expert Q&As, mom meetups, and educational events focused on women’s health and wellness.
Our classes are designed for women at every stage of life-from pregnancy and postpartum to perimenopause and menopause.
What is the most challenging aspect of running your business?
The most challenging part is balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. As a mom of two young boys, there are days when I feel like I’m switching between 100 different tabs in my brain – mom, business owner, fitness instructor, marketer, community builder, chauffeur, and everything in between. There never seem to be enough hours in the day, but I’ve learned that building a business and raising a family aren’t competing priorities. They’re deeply connected. My children are actually a huge part of why Maia exists in the first place.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you have received as an aspiring entrepreneur?
The best advice I’ve received is to focus on daily progress, not overnight success. The small actions matter -showing up consistently, following up, building relationships, and staying connected to your community. I’ve found that genuine connections are at the heart of every successful business, and over time those small, consistent efforts create the biggest results.
