I’m thrilled to feature Bailey Mallon and Rose Yan from Millburn Mamas and Minis—the latest in our Boss in the ’Burbs series. Bailey and Rose are the visionaries behind a free, inclusive community dedicated to making motherhood less isolating through authentic, local connection.
With impressive backgrounds in finance and law, these two Short Hills moms have combined their professional expertise with a heart for service to build a “village” where every mother can feel at home. From educational workshops to their vibrant network of local mamas, they are proving that the strongest communities are built when we lead with intention and inclusivity.
Can you share a little about your background?
We’re Bailey Mallon and Rose Yan, co-founders of Millburn Mamas and Minis.
Bailey grew up in New Providence and Harding Township, NJ, alongside her parents and two younger sisters. Her youngest sister, Casey, has Down syndrome, which inspired a lifelong passion for supporting the special needs community. She attended Fordham University for both her undergraduate degree in Finance & Value Investing and her MBA in Finance. For the past ten years, she’s worked in finance and is currently the New Jersey Government Banker at a large bank. She lives in Short Hills with her husband and their 1.5 year old daughter.
Rose grew up in Holmdel, NJ, and has two younger siblings. She has always been passionate about connecting people, and she is thrilled to be building a vibrant community for local families. Rose has an A.B. in Economics from Harvard University and a J.D. from Rutgers University. After working for over ten years primarily in regulatory compliance at large banks, followed by two very rewarding years at a legal tech startup, she decided to focus on raising her family full-time. She lives in Short Hills with her husband and two young sons.
What inspired you to start Millburn Mamas and Minis?
Bailey founded Millburn Mamas and Minis in October 2023 when she was six months pregnant, looking to create a circle of friendship and support for moms in the same stage of life nearby. Rose joined as co-lead in January 2025, bringing her own experience, creativity, and network to help the group grow into what it is today. Together, we share a mission to make motherhood less isolating by connecting local moms in an authentic, inclusive way.
What products and/or services do you offer?
Millburn Mamas and Minis is a free community for local mothers in Millburn and surrounding towns. We host in-person events for families and moms, partner with local businesses to offer exclusive perks, and connect members through topic-specific WhatsApp community groups ranging from parenting stages to shared interests. Our events range from educational workshops to social gatherings, always with the goal of building a strong local community.
What is the most challenging aspect of running your business?
Balancing growth with a personal touch. We’re thrilled to welcome new members every week, but we’re intentional about keeping the warmth, inclusivity, and neighborly feel that made this community special from the start. We are determined to make a community for all mamas as they navigate their stage of motherhood, which starts with everyone feeling comfortable and “at home” with other mamas.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you have received as an aspiring entrepreneur?
The most valuable advice we’ve received is to stay focused on our core mission. As entrepreneurs, there are endless opportunities, but if you pursue projects that do not align with your mission, you risk diluting your impact. For us, our mission is simple: connect local moms, support families, and strengthen our community. Every decision we make goes back to that.
