Elizabeth Mazzarella is my Madison Town Specialist and the creator of Friday Funday, a series where she highlights the best spots for family fun. She recently ventured to Huckle Berry Play in Morris Plains for a fun-filled indoor playdate. Here’s the scoop on her adventure:
I recently visited Huckle Berry Play in Morris Plains to beat the cold and embark on a fun-filled indoor playday. Huckleberry has been open for about a year and a half, making it a newer addition to local play spots. I had been once before, and my older daughter absolutely loved it. As with anything in parenting, going back with two kids was a different, yet equally enjoyable experience.
When entering Huckleberry, you’re welcomed by a spacious entrance—something I truly appreciate as a mom, providing a smooth check-in and shoe removal area. Entrance pricing is reasonable, and the main adult is included in the child’s ticket. Children under one are free. You can reserve a spot online, but they also welcome walk-ins. There are cubbies for your personal belongings and shoes (though they don’t have lockers, so plan accordingly). Right behind the main entrance is a designated coloring space, perfect if your kids need a moment of peace. ✏️🎨
The layout is fantastic. The main structure features a large playground with slides, swings, climbing structures, and plenty of crawl spaces with lights and sounds. Both of my daughters enjoyed crawling through the tunnels and ending up in the hidden foam pit. The space is designed for a wide range of ages, offering something for everyone. The entire structure is surrounded by a pink, white, and yellow ball pit, a fun throwback. There’s also a soft play area for little ones under 24 months, a rock-climbing wall, a pretend kitchen, and a grocery store. Other areas include a dress-up room, a Lego playroom, and push cars for all ages. 🚗💖
Huckleberry Play is by far the cleanest play place I’ve visited. Both times I’ve been, I’ve seen staff actively cleaning and mopping. The space feels fresh, and the layout ensures even when it’s busy, there’s plenty of room to move around. There are tables along the perimeter for families to take breaks, and they offer a variety of snacks and drinks at the entrance. On weekends, your visit is capped at two hours, but during the week, you can stay as long as you like. I think children ten and under would especially enjoy this place, making it a great spot to check out as we wait for winter to end! 🧼✨
